by Firefox user 13842827, 7 years agoI can't recall ever using it much - BUT in the Linux eco system (Debian based), it keeps on adding more and more and more "speech dispatcher" streams to the Audio channel / sound mixer.
And like most frustrating things - there is no way to stop this process of every time open another webpage with readable contents, it opens another audio stream / channel.
And they do not seem to close down when I shut down the web pages...
So I'd say this is not actually a fault, as a for instance if I were to open 3 or 4 sets of the VLC media player, I'd get exactly the same thing.
I'd rather see it as a single program, with branches into the websites, instead of multiples of the same program, going into the different wesites...

- Rated 1 out of 5by Kennis Düster, a month ago
- Rated 3 out of 5by Raygen, a month agoThe highlighting is nice, something that I couldn't find in other extensions, but the voices are NOT natural (like the MS Edge TTS extension), they're just the classic robotic voices included in the OS.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Israel Roldan, 2 years agoBasically, it does nothing. I think that it didn't install the voices because I don't listen to any voices. I am on Firefox – Arch Linux – Kernel 6.1.12 – x86_64.

There is no 'toggle'.
The highlighting works, but there is no sound/voice.
"Note 2: HTML5 TTS API is still a work in progress and may encounter crashes or errors. If the API is not active in your browser, please go to "about:config" page and search for "webspeech" keyword. Once you find "media.webspeech.synth.enables" item, right-click on it and click - Toggle - to enable it." - Rated 5 out of 5by 𝓚𝓘𝓢𝓢_ℳႸ_𝓦𝓔𝓔𝓓, 3 years agoVERY NICE !! - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 17523261, 3 years agoTerrible UX - opening a separate window for a seemingly simple function defeats the whole purpose of an addon. Waste of 5 mins of my life (including 2 mins reviewing this).
